Race Against Hunger
The Race Against Hunger is an annual community event held in historic Newfane, New York. Organized by the Newfane Lions Club, the event serves as a fundraiser for local food programs, including the Newfane Community Food Pantry and the First Baptist Church Food Pantry. The event base is located at the Newfane Town Hall, where both the start and finish lines are situated.
Participants can choose between two main distances:
- 5 km Run
- 1 km Fun Walk/Run
The 5 km run is a timed event utilizing Jaguar Electronic RFID timing technology, allowing for real-time results. The 1 km fun run/walk is a non-timed event. For the 5 km distance, trophies are awarded to the first-place overall male and female finishers. Recognition is also provided for various age groups, ranging from 14 and under to 70 and older.
The venue offers free street parking near the start and finish area. Following the races, a celebration is held in the Newfane Town Hall parking lot featuring bottled water, music, and snacks. Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate on the day of the event. All registrants who sign up by the early June deadline are guaranteed an official t-shirt, with limited quantities available for later registrants.
