R5k Run/Walk and Recovery Celebration
The Nevada’s Recovery and Prevention (NRAP) annual event takes place at Idlewild Park’s Snowflake Pavilion in Reno, Nevada. This event is held in observance of National Recovery Month to promote community wellness, celebrate individuals in recovery, and address the stigma associated with substance use.
The event features a competitive and non-competitive run and walk followed by a recovery celebration that is free and open to the general public. Registration for the 5k includes a racing bib with timing, a medal, and breakfast for participants. There is also a dedicated run for children.
The available distances for this event are:
- 5 km run/walk
- Kids Fun Run (for children under 6)
The 5 km course follows the Crooked Mile path west along the north side of the Truckee River, extending to Ivan Sack Park. At this point, participants reach a water station and turn around to return along the same path toward the Snowflake Pavilion.
The post-race celebration includes live music, food, and family activities. Local guest speakers and advocates share their experiences, and various community organizations provide information regarding local services and health topics. Proceeds from the event support students who identify as being in recovery or those choosing a substance-free lifestyle at the University.
