Event Overview
The R5K Run/Walk and Recovery Celebration is organized by Nevada's Recovery and Prevention (NRAP) to promote community health and celebrate individuals in recovery. It takes place at Idlewild Park's Snowflake Pavilion in Reno, Nevada.
Event Details
The event consists of a 5 km run/walk followed by a community celebration. The run/walk offers participants an opportunity to walk or run in honor of someone impacted by substance use. After the event, there is a free recovery celebration open to the public, regardless of participation in the 5 km. The celebration features food, family activities, and local guest speakers and advocates in recovery. Community organizations provide information on local services and present on relevant topics.
Schedule and Course
The event is scheduled for a Saturday in late September. A schedule includes onsite registration and vendors opening in the morning, followed by the run/walk start. The recovery celebration with speakers, music, food, and a raffle follows the run/walk. The course starts and finishes near the Snowflake Pavilion in Idlewild Park. The route follows a path along the north side of the Truckee River west to Ivan Sack Park, where there is a water station, and then returns along the same path.
Additional Information
Registration for the event opens early in the year of the event. Financial support from the event helps support university students in recovery or choosing a substance-free lifestyle. There are opportunities for sponsorship and for sponsoring a runner in recovery through a donation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
