Quiet Silence in Lake Mills, WI
Quiet Silence is an evening out-and-back trail event organized by TYDISH Running in Lake Mills, WI. It offers two distances on a flat, wide crushed limestone rails-to-trails surface with little technical terrain. The event takes place in winter conditions when daylight has ended and temperatures can be cold.
Distances
- 31 miler out and back
- 17.5 miler out and back
Trail conditions can vary by year: the route is not plowed or maintained for snow, so sections may be clear, drifted, or require post-holing. Participants should be prepared for changing winter weather.
Aid and logistics are distance specific. The 17.5 mile turnaround provides fluids, an electrolyte drink, light snacks, and a drop bag location; drop bags may be returned to the start/finish and retrieval times are not guaranteed. The 31 miler has a full aid station at its turnaround with cold and hot drinks, food, a covered lit tent with chairs and heaters, and volunteer support. Portable toilets are available at the start and at the 31 mile turnaround; there is no toilet at the 17.5 mile turnaround.
Participants receive a finish token that is not a medal; top three women and men in each distance receive an additional gift. Organizers prohibit loud noisemakers and do not serve alcohol. Aid stations are cupless; runners must bring their own vessels.
Required gear follows local safety guidelines: two rear-facing and one forward-facing red light with a blinking option, and at least ten square inches of reflective material on both the front and back of outer layers. Gear will be checked during pre-race packet pickup. Registration closes on Wed, Dec 16. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
