Queen of the Ridge
Queen of the Ridge is a women's trail running event held on a family dairy farm near Arena, Wisconsin. It is structured as a "Last Woman Standing" competition, a format similar to a backyard ultra.
Runners complete a loop of approximately 1 to 1.25 miles with a minimum of 250 feet of elevation gain every 20 minutes. The loop uses a combination of single-track and grass trails. The direction of the route changes every four hours. A competitor is eliminated if they fail to finish a loop within the 20-minute time limit or are not in the starting corral for the next lap.
The event base, called The Commonwealth Village, includes the starting corral, a participant tent, space for crew tents, an aid station, medical tent, restrooms, and spectator viewing. The aid station provides fruit, snacks, hot food, hydration products, coffee, and soda. Overnight camping on the Saturday of the event is permitted for participants with tents or small camper vans.
A portion of the proceeds from the event is donated to support the planning and construction of the Driftless Trail, a planned foot-traffic-only loop connecting several state parks in the area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
