Qualicum Beach Triathlon
The Qualicum Beach Triathlon, located in British Columbia, Canada, marks its 27th year of operation. This multisport event features a range of distances and disciplines, including triathlon, duathlon, and aquathon formats designed for various age categories from young children to adults.
The event offers several race configurations:
- Adults (18+) and Adult Relay: 400 m Swim, 20.5 km Bike, and 5 km Run.
- Duathlon (15+): 5 km Run, 20.5 km Bike, and 2.5 km Run.
- Aquathon (15+): 400 m Swim and 5 km Run.
- Junior (16-17): 250 m Swim, 12.3 km Bike, and 5 km Run.
- Youth (14-15): 200 m Swim, 8.2 km Bike, and 2.5 km Run.
- Minor (12-13): 150 m Swim, 4.1 km Bike, and 1.5 km Run.
- Novice (10-11): 100 m Swim, 4.1 km Bike, and 1.5 km Run.
- Rookie (8-9): 50 m Swim (aid allowed), 1 km Bike, and 800 m Run.
- Tiny-Tri (5-7): One pool width Swim, 125 m Bike, and 250 m Run.
Swimming segments take place in a pool setting. In the Rookie and Tiny-Tri categories, participants may use flotation aids such as life jackets, kickboards, or pool noodles, and adult assistance is permitted. Cycling courses consist of loops on local roads, including Jones Rd, while running sections for younger participants may pass through wooded areas.
