About the race
The event starts and finishes at St. Andrew's Church in Skipton and follows a mixed trail route that uses parts of the Dales High Way, the River Aire Ultra and the Pennine Way. The ultramarathon route includes Malham Tarn and Gordale Scar and passes through typical Dales terrain.
Distances are offered as:
- 13 miles
- 20 miles
- 34 miles
Each distance has an associated climb: 1500, 2200 and 4200 feet respectively. ITRA points are awarded 1, 1 and 2 and the courses serve as UTMB qualifiers Q20K or Q50K as listed. Maximum field is 200 and minimum age is 18. The event is listed as race 3 of 9 in the series.
All ultramarathon entrants receive a tracker supplied by the organiser; trail runners may hire a tracker for a fee. Trackers show live positions and include an emergency button that, if pressed in range, ends the competitor's race. Routes will be taped and signed before the event but tape can be moved or removed, so competitors should carry route descriptions.
A mandatory kit list applies to all distances and random kit checks may result in disqualification if required items are missing. Checkpoints provide basic snacks and drinks; external support crews are not allowed at official checkpoints. Finishers receive a medal and an event T shirt unless they opt out, and hot food with vegan and gluten free options is available at the finish.
