Preseli Beast
The Preseli Beast is one of a series of three off-road and fell running races in the Preseli hills, North Pembrokeshire, centred on Maenclochog village green. All routes share the same start and finish and visit the Preselis' highest point, Foel Cwmcerwyn. The event lists a minimum age of 18 and entries open in December 2025.
Distances:
- Beast Bach - 10.8 miles, 1,700 ft ascent
- Preseli Beast - approx 24 miles, approx 4,600 ft ascent
- UltrabeasT - 52 km / 32.3 miles, 1,850 m climb
The Preseli Beast route is off-road and combines trail, fell and wooded paths with some boggy sections and steep climbs. The course is part-marked and there are water and feed stations at roughly five-mile intervals; the Beast Bach remains fully marked with a single aid station around the five-mile point.
Prizes are awarded by category, including overall and female age groups. Participants receive on-course marshals, a marked course, a slate coaster and post-race refreshments such as soup, tea and cake; a race buff is available to purchase on the day and there is an evening after-race social with music and food.
The event follows WFRA safety guidance: competitors are responsible for their own safety, must have suitable skills and kit, and obey race officials. For the Preseli Beast and UltrabeasT organisers ask for full waterproofs, map, compass, whistle, water container, gloves and hat or buff; kit requirements for the Beast Bach may be reduced depending on conditions.
