Beach Racing at Pendine Sands
The Pendine Sands Races offer a unique running experience entirely on the beach. Located at Pendine Sands, the course utilizes the same firm sand famous for land speed record attempts. This surface is often suitable for barefoot running. The event features an out-and-back route that is well-marked for all participants.
Participants can choose from a wide range of distances:
- 5k: A 2.5 km out-and-back route.
- 10k: A single full out-and-back covering 10.5 km.
- Half Marathon: Two full out-and-back laps.
- Marathon: Four full out-and-back laps.
- Ultra: Five full out-and-back laps totaling 32.8 miles.
The event is cup-free, meaning runners must bring their own reusable cups for use at the four self-serving water stations. These stations are located at the start/finish area, the 2.5 km midpoint, and the course turning point at 5.28 km.
All finishers receive a medal, and trophies are awarded to the top male and female runners in each category. The event is open to walkers, provided they finish within the time limits set by the tide tables. Participants must be at least 16 years old for the half marathon and 18 years old for the marathon and ultra distances. Mandatory kit for certain distances includes a backpack, head torch, whistle, and basic first aid kit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
