Prefontaine Memorial Run
The Prefontaine Memorial Run is a community running event in Coos Bay, Oregon, held on September 19, 2026. The course starts in downtown Coos Bay at 4th and Anderson and finishes at Marshfield High School's Prefontaine Track; the event uses the Marshfield High School Baseball Field area and adjacent facilities.
Distances offered:
- 10K race
- 2 mile fun run/walk
Every entrant who completes a race receives a participation medallion. Awards for the high school competition and the overall men’s and women’s 10K winners are presented on the Prefontaine Track adjacent to the finish area. Divisional awards for the 10K are given in five-year age groups to the top three finishers in each division. The event pays equal prize money to the top three men and top three women in the 10K: $500 for first, $300 for second, and $200 for third. Top three individual placers in the 5K team competition for men and women also receive awards.
Chip timing is provided for the 2 mile fun walk, and race timing systems are used to produce official results. Packets and t-shirts are distributed at St. Monica Parish Hall on September 18 and 19; if distribution is altered, shirts will be available in the finish area after the event.
The race course is on a State Highway and will be closed to vehicular traffic for most of the event; local police will control reopenings and participants should be aware of traffic if the course reopens.
A weekend Bay Area Fun Festival accompanies the event, featuring a car show, kids run, market with arts and food, a quilt show, a parade, and live entertainment. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
