Prefontaine Memorial Run
The Prefontaine Memorial Run is an annual running event held in Coos Bay, Oregon, named for Steve Prefontaine. The event finishes at Marshfield High School’s Prefontaine Track in Coos Bay and follows a road course that crosses one of Prefontaine’s former training routes. The finish at the high school track is the same venue where he first competed.
The event program includes multiple participation options:
- 10K
- 2 mile fun run/walk
- Virtual run
Prize money is awarded in the 10K only. For 2026 the race listed prizes for the top three men and top three women as follows: first place $500, second place $300, third place $200.
The race is traditionally held on the third Saturday in September. Organizers note travel impacts around the race weekend; at least one highway closure near the coast has been reported in connection with a recent event weekend. Participants are provided with race instructions and rules prior to competing. The event is presented by the Steve Prefontaine Foundation and includes community supporters and scholarship programs associated with the foundation.
