Prairie & Pines 5k and Half Marathon
The Prairie & Pines events take place in Marshall, Minnesota on August 8 and 9, 2026, with start and finish at the Red Baron Arena. The weekend includes a Saturday evening 5k fun run along the Camden Regional Trail and a Sunday morning chip-timed half marathon that passes the SMSU campus, the ADM environmental learning trail, and joins the Camden Regional Trail on the outskirts of town.

Registration opens May 8, 2026 and closes July 8, 2026. Standard fees listed are $30 for the 5k and $50 for the half marathon; a $10 discount applies for registering for both events. Early registrants by July 8 receive a cooling towel for the 5k or a t-shirt for the half marathon. Prices increase after July 8 with additional date-based changes noted.
Race-day logistics include packet pickup on August 8 for both races, with an additional race-morning pickup option for half marathon participants on August 9. Restrooms are available at the Red Baron Arena. The 5k has a water station at the halfway point; the half marathon provides water, porta potties, and first aid approximately every 2 to 3 miles. Volunteers assist at road crossings but roads will remain open.
Post-race food trucks are scheduled for August 8 and 9, and proceeds from both events benefit the Marshall Area YMCA. For the half marathon, medals are awarded to the top three finishers by gender in each age division, strollers are not permitted, and there is a four-hour course time limit beyond which volunteer support and aid stations will be discontinued.
