Prairie Moon 5K Pumpkin Fun Run
The Prairie Moon 5K Pumpkin Fun Run is an annual event hosted by Prairie Moon Waldorf School in Lawrence, Kansas. It features a timed 5K race that begins and ends on the school grounds and a separate children’s fun run and obstacle course of less than one mile that finishes near the center of the school grounds. The 5K is officially timed but not certified; the fun run is not timed.
The course runs along the gravel road (1600 Rd) in front of the school, continues to the Mud Creek levee trail, and returns to the school. Strollers are welcome but sturdy tires are recommended for the gravel sections. Each 5K registration includes a timed bib. Adult 5K registration includes a t-shirt if registered by October 9; youth 17 and younger may register for a lower fee and may purchase a t-shirt separately. The kids fun run is free; shirts for that event are optional and priced separately.
Event packet pick-up is available the day before at Prairie Moon Waldorf School and at Fleet Feet in downtown Lawrence, and on the day of the event at the school. There is a raffle for a fire pit donated by IMI Industrial Services; each 5K registrant receives one raffle entry and each additional $10 donation adds one raffle ticket. Prizes and post-run activities include items donated by Garmin and local businesses, pumpkin painting, chess, a story walk, coffee, and donated baked goods.
Prairie Moon Waldorf School is a non-profit Waldorf school serving early education through 8th grade, using a nature and art based curriculum and a need-based sliding tuition scale. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
