Prairie Goat VK : SpringHill Winter Park, Springfield MB
Prairie Goat VK is a vertical kilometer event held for a third year at SpringHill Winter Park in Springfield, Manitoba. The objective is to reach 1,000 m of total vertical gain within a 4-hour time limit. The course is a 400 m loop featuring a rapid descent followed immediately by a demanding climb back to the summit. Competitors repeat the circuit until they reach 30 laps, the target set by organizers.
The event takes place on Treaty 1 territory, the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Ojibwe-Cree, Dakota and Dene peoples, and the Red River Métis Nation.
On course, an aid station supplies water, electrolytes, energy bars and fruit. The event is cup-less; participants are expected to use reusable vessels. All finishers receive a commemorative medal. Organizers award VK Top Finisher prizes and GOAT trophies to those who complete the most laps. Free high-quality course photos are provided and a post-race barbecue follows the event.
Drop bags are permitted. Pacers are not allowed and spectators are encouraged to cheer from the summit. Participation is capped at 100 runners and registration closes on August 1. The event has a no-refund policy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
