Prairie Goat VK
Prairie Goat VK is a vertical kilometer event scheduled for August 9, 2026 at SpringHill Winter Park in Springfield, MB. The event is in its third year and includes an acknowledgement that it takes place on Treaty 1 territory, the ancestral lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Ojibwe-Cree, Dakota, Dene peoples and the Red River Métis Nation.
The aim is to achieve 1,000 m of total vertical gain within a four hour limit. The course is a 400 m loop with a rapid descent immediately followed by a demanding climb back to the summit. Participants repeat the circuit until they reach 30 laps.
On-course support includes water, electrolytes, energy bars and fruit. The event is cup-less, so participants are expected to use a reusable vessel. All finishers receive a commemorative medal and free high quality course photos are provided. Awards include VK Top Finisher prizes and GOAT trophies for those who complete the most laps before the cutoff. A post-race barbecue is part of the event atmosphere.
Logistics listed by the organizers: drop bags are allowed, pacers are not permitted, spectators are encouraged to cheer from the summit, St. John Ambulance will be on site for safety, participation is capped at 100 runners, there are no refunds, registration closes August 1, 2026 and the published entry fee is US$89.
