Powderface Mountain Marathon & Half Marathon

The Powderface Mountain Marathon and Half Marathon take place on June 27, 2026, at Station Flats, Kananaskis. The event is held on K-Country singletrack and lists the following distances:

  • 42.2 km marathon - ~1286 m elevation gain
  • Half marathon distance option

The organizer notes the course is more technical and has significant elevation. Past-runners’ guidance recommends having previously run 25 km to 30 km on trail and doing specific trail and hill training before attempting the marathon distance.

Course, gear and logistics

All runners must carry a water vessel that can be filled at aid stations, a light shell or jacket, and a toque or buff. Suggested items include trail shoes, snacks or personal fuel, bear spray, and hiking poles. Aid stations will offer water, an electrolyte drink (Blonyx Hydra+), cola, fruit, pretzels, chips, and Xact Nutrition Fruit Bars. Drop bags can be placed at aid stations if labeled with the runner name and checkpoint. Washrooms are located in the parking lot at the start/finish. Parking at Station Flats is limited.

Safety rules prohibit dogs, headphones, and strollers on the course. The marathon has aid-station cut-off points: aid station 3 at 23 km and aid station 4 at 32 km (cut-off times apply). All finishers receive a finisher’s medal; additional prizes are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each gender for each distance. Registration for 2026 opens October 14, 2025.
