Event Overview

The Powderface Mountain Marathon is a trail running event held at Station Flats in the Kananaskis region of Alberta. The course utilizes K-Country singletrack trails, offering participants a technical running environment. The event features two primary race distances:

  • 42.2 km (Marathon) - featuring approximately 1286m of elevation gain.
  • 21.1 km (Half Marathon).

Required Gear and Safety

Due to the significant elevation and nature of the terrain, all participants must carry specific mandatory safety gear. This includes a hydration pack, a jacket, gloves, and a BUFF to cover the ears. Optional equipment such as bear spray and hiking poles is also permitted. To maintain safety standards on the technical course, dogs, headphones, and strollers are prohibited.

Participant Services

Aid stations are positioned along the course and provide water, electrolyte drinks, cola, fruit, pretzels, and nutrition bars. Marathon runners must adhere to specific cut-off times located at the 23 km and 32 km marks. Runners have the option to use drop bags, which can be placed at designated aid stations or checkpoints if labeled correctly. All finishers receive a medal, and additional prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
