Potomac River Marathon & Half
The Potomac River Marathon & Half is a marathon and half marathon held at Fletcher's Cove, 4940 Canal Road NW, Washington DC, on the C&O Canal Towpath. The event uses a USATF certified course (DC21001RT) and runs on a narrow, unpaved crushed stone and packed dirt trail that is mostly flat and out and back. The route passes historic locks and gatehouses, runs beside the Potomac River, and is tree lined and shaded.

Course and on-course support: the trail is roughly 12 feet wide, shared with other users and bicyclists, and participants are asked to keep to the right. There are four aid stations supplying water and Gatorade, with portable toilets at each station and at the start/finish. First aid, course marshals, and bike support are on the course. Marathon entrants pass aid stations about fifteen times; half marathon entrants pass them about eight times, generally about every two miles.
Entries and logistics: packet pickup is available at Pacers Running Store before race day and at the start area on race morning. On-site parking is available near the start and finish, with additional off-site parking and drop-off access via Reservoir Road.
Amenities and awards: entrants receive a technical shirt and finishers receive medals. Cash prizes are offered for overall top finishers in the marathon and half marathon. Proceeds benefit Marathon Charity Cooperation and affiliated charity partners. Post-race refreshments and entertainment are provided.
