The Polar Plunge and Fun Run at Lula Lake Preserve in Lookout Mountain, GA combines a short trail run with a group plunge into Lula Lake. The event includes a fun run of approximately 2 to 3 miles through the preserve and a supervised plunge at the lake. This is not a timed race and there are no winners.
Logistics and safety
Attendees are responsible for warm, dry clothing and items to change into after the plunge; belongings are transported from the check-in area to the lake for participants. Children under 13 are required to wear lifejackets; lifejackets are not provided by the preserve. Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian present. Safety kayakers will be on the water and staff will assist participants returning to shore.
Additional information
Spectators may attend but must be with a ticket buyer and walk to the lake viewing area; there is no parking at the lake. Hot beverages and beer, including spiked and non-spiked hot cider sponsored by Chattanooga Whiskey, will be available. Proceeds support stewardship and maintenance of more than 4,000 acres of Lula Lake forests and trails and protection of the Rock Creek watershed. Current conservation work mentioned includes releasing predator beetles to protect over 12,000 hemlock trees, building two miles of new trails, and replacing bridges on the Moonshine Trails.
