Polar Bear Triathlon and Duathlon
The Polar Bear Triathlon and Duathlon take place on May 8, 2027, on the campus of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. The event is held annually in May to open the New England triathlon season and uses campus facilities including a 16-lane pool, locker rooms with showers when available, and a flat grass transition area.
The race format combines a pool swim or an opening run for duathletes with a bike and a run. Distances are:
- 525 yard swim or 2 mile run for duathletes
- 11.5 mile bike
- 3 mile run
The bike course follows country coastal roads. The run takes place on wide hard packed trails and quiet neighborhood streets.
Virtual participants may complete the disciplines all at once or separately; event swag for virtual entrants will be mailed after May 8. The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon; participants who are not annual USA Triathlon members must purchase a $15 one-day membership at registration.
Full-time students are eligible for a student discount on designated student entries. Students must list their institution on the entry form and may be asked to show proof of enrollment; they will compete in their appropriate age group.
