Polar Bear Triathlon and Duathlon
The Polar Bear Triathlon and Duathlon takes place on May 2, 2026 in Brunswick, Maine on the Bowdoin College campus. The event offers multiple on-site and virtual options, including triathlon and duathlon races, college student divisions, relays, an aquabike event, and virtual triathlon and duathlon entries.
The on-site triathlon uses a pool swim and a bike and run course laid out on nearby roads and trails. Facilities at Bowdoin College noted for the event include a 16 lane pool, locker rooms with showers pending availability, and a flat grass transition area. The bike course is described as country coastal roads and the run uses wide hard packed trails and quiet neighborhood streets.
Distances for the standard sprint format are:
- 525 yard swim or 2 mile run for duathletes
- 11.5 mile bike
- 3 mile run
Virtual participants may complete the segments together or separately. Swag for virtual participants will be mailed after May 4. The event will be sanctioned by USA Triathlon; participants who are not annual USA Triathlon members must purchase a one day membership for $15 when registering. Most events are open to ages 13 to 99. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
