Event overview

The Pioneer Power Sprint Triathlon & 5K is held in July at Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas (1600 North Bell Ave, Denton, TX 76209). The event is produced by Dallas Athletes Racing and is USAT sanctioned. Profits benefit the TWU soccer team. More than 4,000 athletes have participated in the first 16 editions.

Race format and distances

The event includes:

  • Pool swim - 200 yards
  • Bike - 16.3 miles
  • Run - 3.1 miles (5K)

Racing options include individual competitors, a Team competition (three members each complete the full sprint triathlon; combined times determine team awards), a 3-person Relay (each member completes one component), and a 5K-only event open to runners and walkers. The 5K distance is 3.1 miles.

Packet pickup, rules and race day procedures

Packet pickup is scheduled on multiple days at local locations (TWU Fitness & Recreation Center, Bike Mart in Richardson, and Bear Creek Running Co. in Keller). Triathlon packet pickup requires photo ID, individual pickup for adult athletes, preregistration, and current USAT membership or a one-day USAT permit. Race-day packet pickup is limited to athletes living more than 20 miles from a pickup location. Body marking is performed prior to entering transition and competitors are instructed where to write numbers and optional age.

Awards, swag and post-race

Triathlon age-group awards are three deep with additional divisions for Athena and Clydesdale and masters/grand masters. Relay and team awards are one deep. 5K awards are three deep by age group. Participants receive a tech shirt, socks, and a finisher medal. A post-race party includes food and drink, awards, giveaways, and vendor booths.
