Event Details
The Phoenix Running Hampshire event, called 'Independence Weekend Run Day 1', takes place along The Itchen Way in Winchester. The event has an American theme and encourages fancy dress, with trophies awarded for 'Best Dressed', 'Funniest Costume', and 'Most Patriotic' categories.
Course and Format
This is a timed event with a 7-hour time limit. Participants run a looped course that is an out-and-back route along The Itchen Way, crossing over the Hockley Viaduct. The course is professionally measured and has a Road Permit. The loop distance is 2.62 miles. Participants choose how many loops to complete, with common benchmarks being five loops for a Half Marathon, ten loops for a Marathon, and eleven or more loops for an Ultra. There is no requirement to decide the distance in advance. All participants receive a finisher's medal.
Logistics
The event is based at the Garnier Road Car Park in Winchester (SO23 9PA). The main parking is at the St. Catherine's Park & Ride (SO23 9NP), a short walk away. Parking charges apply on Saturdays. The official start time is 08:00, but the event uses a flexible start system where runners can begin anytime up until 13:00. The course closes at 15:00.
Aid Station
