Phoenix River Rat 10K Run
The Phoenix River Rat 10K is a road race held in Phoenix, New York. The event utilizes a route that parallels the Oswego River for the duration of the loop. This course is a revival of a race that originally took place from the mid-1980s through the early 1990s.
The layout begins at Lock Island Park, where participants cross the Oswego River via the Phoenix Bridge. The route continues north on Pendergast Road, passing through open fields, wooded areas, and residential sections with views of the water. At the halfway point, the course crosses the river a second time over the Hinmansville Bridge, a single-lane structure built in 1915. A section on a packed dirt road through the woods connects to River Road, leading back into the village for a finish at Lock 1.
The course is flat and follows a circular path. Participants can choose to pick up their packets at Lock Island Park on the afternoon before the race or on the morning of the event. Proceeds from the race support the Schroeppel Historical Society. Registration fees are structured with an early bird rate that increases as the event date approaches.
