Remembrance Day Marathon & Half Marathon

The Phoenix Remembrance Day event returns for its 10th edition in 2026. This running event is held on Remembrance Sunday at the Xcel Sports Hub Stadium in Walton on Thames. The course follows a flat, fast riverside towpath with no elevation gain or loss. Participants run multiple out-and-back laps along the Thames to complete their chosen distance.

The central feature of this event is a "race freeze" observed at 11:00 am. At the sound of a horn blast, all runners stop for a two-minute silence. The race resumes at 11:02 am following three horn blasts. This collective pause is the core element of the event, and participants who finish their race before 11:00 am are encouraged to stay to observe the silence.

Available distances include:

  • Half Marathon: 2 out-and-back laps
  • Marathon: 4 out-and-back laps

The terrain consists of off-road trails and towpaths. The registration fee is identical for both distances. Participants receive a commemorative medal upon completion. For the 10th anniversary edition, specific additional tokens are available for the first 100 entries. In accordance with UK Athletics rules, specific distance restrictions apply to participants aged 20 or under. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
