Petzl Night Trails 10k - Salcey Forest
The event takes place at Salcey Forest, a Forestry Commission site near Northampton with a cafe and toilets. The postcode for sat navs is NN7 2HX. The site is about 18 minutes from Northampton and about 9 minutes from Junction 15 of the M1; the closest train station is Northampton. A parking fee applies and a special evening rate of £3.50 has been arranged with details to be sent to entrants.
The race distance is 10k on a fully marked, two lap course. The surface is mainly crushed stone with tree detritus; ground conditions will vary with the weather and can become slippery or muddy. The forest is fundamentally flat though any uphill on a 10k may feel steep.
This is a night event and a head or chest torch is required to take part. Petzl will be present with demo kit to try before, during or after the event.
Canicross is available and canicross runners start 10 minutes before the main field in a mass start. Dogs can become excited in this format, so entrants should consider whether this style suits their dog and follow the event canicross guidance.
Biodegradable cups with water or electrolyte will be provided on course and hot drinks will be available before and after. There is an option to fundraise for Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity and an alternative to a medal is a Big Bear Tree Token, which results in a tree being planted and contains wildflower seeds.
