Event Overview
The Pete Shields Ilkley 10K is a road race held in Ilkley, West Yorkshire. The event is organized by Ilkley Harriers and serves as a memorial race with all profits donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care. The course is situated on closed roads and is designed to be fast and flat with minimal climbing.
Course Details
The race consists of a 10 km distance, covered in a two-lap, out-and-back format. Because the route is a multi-lap course on the road, the use of headphones or similar devices is prohibited, with the exception of bone-conducting headphones or those required for medical reasons. The race starts on the road adjacent to the warm-up field near the event headquarters.
Facilities and Participation
Race headquarters are located at Ilkley Rugby Club, which provides changing facilities and toilets, though no shower or baggage storage facilities are available. Ample free parking is provided at West Holmes Field, located a short walk from the headquarters. Water stations and distance markers are positioned along the route.
The event has an entry limit of 400 participants and is open to runners aged 15 and over. While the race takes place on the road, it is not suitable for wheelchairs. Participants may enter as affiliated or unaffiliated runners, with the possibility of on-the-day entries if the limit has not been reached. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
