Murder Mile
Murder Mile is a one mile road race organised by Wharfedale Harriers on Brunthwaite Lane in Silsden, UK. The course climbs a total of 485 ft and runs from the bridge at the bottom of Brunthwaite Lane up to the junction where the road meets Light Bank Lane. The route winds uphill with little flat running until the final corner and finish. The event regularly attracts several hundred runners.
Races are offered across age categories including U9, U12, U14, U17 and Seniors. The minimum unaccompanied age is 6 years, or 5 years if accompanied by an adult. Entry costs listed are Juniors £2 and Seniors £5, with parking charged at £3. Registration and parking are located in a field on the right just before the bridge; a grassy track between houses leads to the village green and a snicket from the field leads to the start area. Runners are asked to assemble on the village green before the race and to allow faster runners to move to the front when moving to the start line.
Prizes are awarded for the first three men and ladies, first veterans in each age category (40, 50, 60, 70), first U21 male and female, and first three boys and girls in the junior categories. Course record times are 6:24 for men (2014) and 8:03 for ladies (2019). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
