ALPKIT x The Lap - Wansfell Recce
The event meets at the Alpkit shop in Ambleside for coffee and croissants before a group recce of the Wansfell section of The Lap. The planned route covers 7.5 miles / 12 km in a clockwise direction and follows: Ambleside → Wansfell → Baystones → Troutbeck → Jenkins Wood → Ambleside.
The route includes a steep ascent up Wansfell, described as the biggest climb of the clockwise race, and a descent that leads toward the Old Post Office Cafe for a short break. The course offers views along the length of Windermere and a mix of fell terrain and runnable trail sections.
Participants are split into two groups by pace: a quicker group aiming to move at race pace and a more relaxed, social group. The recce is intended to give participants a feel for the terrain and an opportunity to meet others preparing for The Lap rather than to teach navigation; The Lap is waymarked.
Recommended kit includes trail shoes, suitable clothing for changing Lake District weather, water, snacks and a waterproof jacket. The event is listed with a duration of five hours. Tickets were offered at £10 and refunds were available up to seven days before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
