24th Penn State College Day 5k
The Penn State College Day 5k is an annual running and walking event held in Dewey Beach, Delaware. This race serves as the fifth part of the Ten Sisters of Dewey Beach Series. The event takes place at North Beach Restaurant on McKinley Street, navigating through local residential neighborhoods.
Participants can choose from several categories:
- 5k run or walk
- 5k competitive walking (strictly no running or jogging)
- Kiddie K (a 1/10 mile course for children aged 8 and under)
The 5k course is a USATF certified out and back route. Participants are encouraged to wear their college colors for a chance to receive special prizes. Registration includes a gender-specific tech shirt and other giveaway items. Following the race, a post-race party is held featuring food and beverages.
Awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as masters winners. Age group awards are available for the top three male and female finishers in five-year increments, ranging from age 9 and under to 80 and over. There are also awards for the top three male and female walkers and a special recognition for the largest team. The event utilizes the MYLAPS BibTag Timing System for electronic chip timing.
The race supports the Dewey Beach Patrol and Rotary Club #41. Please note that dogs are not permitted on the course. Free parking is available at meters and side streets until 10 am on the day of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
