Event Overview
The Pen Y Fan Challenge is a trail running event scheduled for Sunday, July 26, 2026. The event offers participants a choice between two distances: 5 miles or 13 miles. Both routes take runners to the summit of Pen Y Fan, which is the highest peak in South Wales.
Included Amenities
The entry fee covers several items and services for participants. This includes a free buff, a finisher's medal, chip timing, and a contribution fee to the National Trust. The routes are signed, posted, and marshalled. Water and sweets are provided at the finish for the 5-mile race and at one checkpoint for the 13-mile race.
Required Equipment
Participants must carry compulsory kit on the day. The required items differ slightly between distances.
- For the 5-mile race: a mobile phone, hydration (minimum 500ml), a foil blanket or bivi bag, snacks, a basic first aid kit, a whistle, a windproof jacket, and a reusable cup.
- For the 13-mile race: a mobile phone, hydration (minimum 2 litres), a foil blanket or bivi bag, snacks, a basic first aid kit, a whistle, a waterproof jacket and trousers, a hat/buff, gloves, and a reusable cup.
