Pen y Fan Race
The Pen y Fan Race is a mountain running event held near Brecon, based at the Nant Cwm Llwch car park. The race is part of the Brecon Fans Race Weekend and takes place on Sunday 11 July 2027. The race start lies a further 15-minute walk up the valley from the car park. Sat nav guidance to the car park is provided and printable maps and route maps are available.
The course is 5.8 km (3.5 miles) with 588 m (1,930 ft) of ascent and carries a WFRA classification of AS, which indicates that experience and navigational skills are required. Entrants must be 16 or over on 31/12/2026. Entries are limited and must be made in advance; there is no entry on the day. The advance entry fee is £10. Registration is in a tent near the parking area; pre-entered runners must collect a wristband or they will not be permitted to run.
Mandatory kit includes full windproof body cover (jacket and trousers), a map, compass and whistle; requirements may be relaxed depending on weather. Dogs are not permitted except for medical assistance dogs in some cases. The use of sound equipment that restricts hearing or plays music to others is banned. Poles are not permitted for safety reasons. A printable GPX file and route description are provided, and a recce from the car park is arranged with details to be confirmed.
