About the race
The Pemaquid Beach Triathlon is held on August 23, 2026 at Pemaquid Beach Park in New Harbor, Maine. The event is organized by Bristol Parks and Recreation with support from Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust and serves as a fundraiser to build a playground at Pemaquid Beach Park; to date the fund has raised $48,797 with a goal of raising another $12,000 in 2026. Competitors may enter as individuals or as relay teams of up to three people. Registration fees listed for 2026 are $95 for individual entries and $144 for a relay team (one fee covers up to three team members).
The race format includes:
- Swim: 400 yards
- Bike: 17.4 miles
- Run: 3.1 miles
The 400-yard ocean swim follows a clockwise route around two buoys, starting and ending at Pemaquid Beach; water temperatures in August typically average in the mid-to-low 60s and a wetsuit is recommended but not required. There is one transition area on a grassy spot between the pavilion and the dunes.
The bike course is a 17.4 mile loop that returns to the original route through Bristol Mills on Route 130, Lower Round Pond Road, and Route 32; the route includes steady, gentle rolling hills and coastal sections with views of Muscongus Bay and Monhegan Island. The run is a 3.1-mile out-and-back on Pemaquid Trail with views of Johns Bay and a single moderate hill leaving the park.
Professional chip timing is used; individual athletes receive split times and relays share a single timing chip to exchange between legs. Awards include overall top male, female, and non-binary, top three relay teams, and first and second place by age group. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
