Pemaquid Beach Triathlon
The Pemaquid Beach Triathlon takes place at Pemaquid Beach Park in Bristol New Harbor, Maine on August 23, 2026. The event is a community fundraiser for Bristol Parks and Recreation, with proceeds to support construction of a playground at Pemaquid Beach Park. To date the fund has collected $48,797 and the organizer aims to raise an additional $12,000 in 2026.
Distances for the event are:
- Swim: 400 yards
- Bike: 17.4 miles
- Run: 3.1 miles
The swim is an ocean course that follows a clockwise triangular route starting and ending at Pemaquid Beach. Water temperatures in August average in the mid to low 60s. Wetsuits are recommended for comfort but are not required, and sleeveless wetsuits are allowed. The transition area is on a grassy area between the pavilion and the dunes and is a short walk from the beach.
The bike follows a 17.4 mile loop that uses Route 130, Lower Round Pond Road, and Route 32. The route has steady rolling hills and coastal stretches with views of Muscongus Bay and Monhegan Island. The run is a 3.1 mile out and back along Pemaquid Trail, a quiet residential street with views of Johns Bay and a moderate climb leaving the park.
Professional chip timing is provided by All Sports Events. Relay teams of up to three people share a single ankle timing chip and must hand it off inside the transition area. Awards include top male and female overall, top three relay teams, and age group awards. Registrations completed before July 31 include a soft ring spun tee. All finishers receive a hand made souvenir prize. The event may be altered or canceled for severe conditions and refunds are not provided for weather related changes.
