Pemaquid Beach Triathlon
The Pemaquid Beach Triathlon is held at Pemaquid Beach Park in Bristol (New Harbor), Maine on August 23, 2026. The event is offered for individuals and for relay teams of up to three people. It serves as a fundraiser for Bristol Parks and Recreation to build a playground, with $48,797 raised to date and a goal to raise an additional $12,000 in 2026.
Distances for the course include:
- 400 yards swim in the ocean on a clockwise triangle route
- 17.4 miles bike on a loop that returns to the park
- 3.1 miles run on an out and back along Pemaquid Trail
The swim starts and finishes at Pemaquid Beach and follows a triangular course in chilly ocean water; wetsuits are recommended but not required. The transition area is on a grassy area between the pavilion and the dunes, reached via a short sandy path.
The bike course is a 17.4 mile loop with steady, gentle rolling hills and coastal sections through Chamberlain and New Harbor with views of Muscongus Bay and distant Monhegan Island. The run is a mostly flat out and back on a quiet residential street with views of Johns Bay and a moderate hill near the park exit.
Professional chip timing is provided; individual competitors receive split times and relay teams share a single chip handed off in the transition area. Awards include top male and female overall, top three relay teams, and first and second place by age group. Registrations completed before July 31 include a soft cotton blend T shirt and all finishers receive a handmade prize. Race management may alter or cancel the course for severe conditions and weather related cancellations are not refunded or rescheduled.
