17th Annual Pecan Classic
The Pecan Classic takes place at the Green Valley Pecan Company in Sahuarita, Arizona. This event is one of three races in the Orchard Series, which tracks the seasons within the pecan orchards. Participants run or walk on a course consisting of dirt roads that lead through the rows of trees.
The event offers the following distances:
- 10K (6.2 miles)
- 5K (3.1 miles)
The 10K follows a route through the orchards, while the 5K uses an out and back format with a turnaround point at the 1.55 mile mark. The race is USATF sanctioned and utilizes chip timing. The course is baby jogger friendly, though dogs are not permitted on the route.
Participants receive a pancake breakfast along with snacks and water. Participants who register by a specific deadline are guaranteed a 50-50 blend T-shirt. Awards are presented to the first place overall and masters winners in the 10K, as well as the top three overall runners and masters in both distances. Age group division awards are also provided for the top three finishers.
Water availability is limited along the course, so water bottles are provided at the start and finish areas. Proceeds from the event benefit the Green Valley Sahuarita Chamber Foundation and the Sahuarita High School Student Council. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
