Pawtuxet River 5k: Run of the Mills
This event is a family friendly 5K run or walk held in Coventry, Rhode Island at 15 Foster Dr. The route follows the Coventry Greenway, a rail trail known as the Washington-Secondary bike path, and features three trestle bridges, views of the Pawtuxet River, two historic mills, and a jog through the Anthony Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
All proceeds benefit the Pawtuxet River Authority and Watershed Council. That organization is a 100% volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) that has worked on protection, conservation, and restoration of the Pawtuxet River and its watershed for over 50 years. The council serves Cranston, Coventry, Scituate, Warwick, and West Warwick and states its mission as enhancing water quality and wildlife habitats, creating opportunities for public passive recreation, and promoting the environmental, cultural, and historic significance of the watershed.
Event logistics include bib pickup at the Middle School, a walk to the start area on Knotty Oak Road near Rice Field, and a finish at the Middle School. Awards are listed for the top three overall finishers in Male/Open and Female categories with prizes of $100, $75, and $50.
