Pawtuxet River 5k: Run of the Mills

This event is a family-friendly 5k run or walk along the Pawtuxet River in Coventry, Rhode Island. The course follows the Coventry Greenway, a rail trail known as the Washington-Secondary bike path, and crosses three trestle bridges. Participants pass river views, two historic mills, and run through the Anthony Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Bib pick up takes place at the Middle School. Runners will walk to the start on Knotty Oak Road near Rice Field, and the race finishes at the Middle School. Awards are offered for the top three overall finishers in the Male/Open and Female categories with prize amounts of $100 for first, $75 for second, and $50 for third. Registration carries a fee of $35.00. T-shirts are guaranteed for participants who register before October 17, 2026.

All proceeds benefit the Pawtuxet River Authority and Watershed Council, a 100 percent volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that serves Cranston, Coventry, Scituate, Warwick, and West Warwick. The organization’s stated mission includes protecting, conserving, and restoring the Pawtuxet River and its watershed, enhancing water quality and wildlife habitat, and promoting the area’s environmental, cultural, and historic significance.
