Pawtuxet River 5k Run of the Mills
The event is a family-friendly 5k run or walk held in Coventry, Rhode Island along the Pawtuxet River and the Coventry Greenway, a rail trail also known as the Washington-Secondary bike path. The course passes three trestle bridges, offers river views, goes past two historic mills, and includes a stretch through the Anthony Historic District, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Bib pick up is organized at the Middle School. Participants will walk to the start on Knotty Oak Road near Rice Field and the race finishes at the Middle School. Awards are given to the top three overall finishers in the Male/Open and Female categories with prizes of $100 for first place, $75 for second, and $50 for third.
All proceeds benefit the Pawtuxet River Authority and Watershed Council. That organization is a 100 percent volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) that has worked for over 50 years to protect, conserve, and restore the Pawtuxet River and its watershed. Its stated mission includes enhancing water quality and wildlife habitats, creating opportunities for passive public recreation, and promoting the environmental, cultural, and historic significance of the river and watershed.
