Pawpaw 10 Miler and 5 Miler : Powhatan State Park
The Pawpaw event offers trail running and hiking options at Powhatan State Park in Powhatan, Virginia. Distances offered include:
- 10 Miler
- 10Mile Hiker
- 5 Mile Hiker
- 5 Miler
The course runs along the James River, through open fields, along singletrack and past historic cabin ruins. Parts of the route beside the river are flat and scenic. Away from the river, the trails include steep climbs into open fields and shaded forest sections. The finish is at the Equestrian Trailhead Parking Lot.
Powhatan State Park opened in 2013 and contains miles of James River frontage and almost 20 miles of trails. The park mixes reclaimed farm fields with shady forest, providing varied scenery and wildlife viewing opportunities.
There will be a water station near mile 5. Participants registered by September 1 receive a gender specific short sleeve shirt. Food from the Cafe at Maidens will be available for purchase after the event, with boxed lunches offered as an add-on at checkout.
The entry fee is $50 and the event benefits the Friends of Powhatan State Park. The race is part of the Virginia State Parks Adventure Series and is sponsored by Dominion Energy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
