About the race
The CarMax Tacky Light Run is a festive evening running event on December 12, 2026, held in Midlothian Mines Park with a course that travels through Walton Park. The event features a festive 6k route where dozens of neighborhood homes display extensive holiday lights and decorations. The course includes the event's notable light tunnel at the start and finish and offers multiple photo opportunities along the route. Participants receive admission to the North Pole area and event swag, including a choice of a knit beanie or event shirt, an ornament finisher medal, a commemorative bib, and Wegmans Candy Can WOs.
The event is limited to the first 5,000 registrants. Entry pricing varies by date, with a published range of $20 to $55 and an income-based rate of $20. A virtual option is available for those who cannot attend in person. A Twilight 1-Mile Kids Run for ages 4 to 12 runs through a North Pole forest and the light tunnel, finishing with medals, Santa, cookies, and a North Pole party.
The event lists Sports Backers Youth Programs as its charity, with programs that supply athletic shoes, fund transportation for youth clubs, and offer leadership development and scholarships. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
