Pain Is Currency Backyard Ultra
Pain Is Currency Backyard Ultra is a Last Person Standing style backyard ultra held April 4, 2026 at 1723 Maidens Rd, Maidens, VA. The event uses a private trail system that consists of mountain bike singletrack with roots, rocks, rolling terrain, and about 100 ft of elevation gain per loop.
Runners complete a single loop of 4.167 miles every hour, on the hour. Competitors must be in the starting corral at the bell and must start each loop on time. Failure to begin a loop or to complete a loop within the hour results in elimination. The race continues until one runner completes a loop alone; there is no separate finish line.
The Pain Is Currency twist adds cumulative weight starting on Loop 2. Loop 1 has no added weight. Beginning with Loop 2, runners add 1 lb per loop and carry the total weight for the entire loop. Organizers provide the weight and will perform random audits. Packs or vests used to carry weight must remain near the starting line and may not be returned to camp.
Water is provided at the start/finish and restrooms are located near the camp area. Each registered runner is allocated a 10x10 camp lot with early setup available the evening before. Field size is capped at 50 runners. Entry fees are $90 plus fees, rising to $100 plus fees after March 1, 2026. Refunds are 50% until March 1, 2026, transfers are allowed until March 21, 2026, and deferrals are not permitted.
Awards include a trophy and gift card for the last runner standing; all others receive a DNF and a one pound memento. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
