Event overview
The Pain Is Currency Backyard Ultra takes place on April 4, 2026 in Maidens, Virginia. The event uses the Last Man Standing format: runners complete a loop of 4.167 miles every hour, on the hour, until only one runner remains. If a runner does not finish a loop within the hour or is not in the corral at the bell, they are eliminated. There are no late starts and no banked time. Each loop requires carrying an additional 1-pound weight provided by the organizers; the weight must be carried for the entire loop and accumulates each hour. Runners may rest, eat, or change gear between loops.
Course, logistics, and awards
The race is held on a private trail system at 1723 Maidens Rd, Maidens, VA 23102. The course uses mountain bike trails with flowy singletrack, tight turns, rolling terrain, runnable dirt and leaf-covered forest paths, and hard pack gravel road. Parking and staging are onsite. Registered runners receive further event details by email.
Swag includes a bib, sticker, and shirt. The last runner standing receives a trophy and gift card. Other participants who do not finish receive a DNF designation and a one-pound memento. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
