Outrun the Stigma is a 5K run and walk held in Massapequa Park, NY at Front Street and Park Boulevard. The event takes place rain or shine and is organized as an in-person community race with both an adult 5K and a kids fun run.
The 3.1 mile course begins on a closed road, enters the Massapequa Preserve after a few hundred yards, and includes roughly half dirt and gravel trails and half paved trail before returning to the roadway for the finish. The event offers finisher medals for adult 5K finishers, an after party with food and music, and free finish line photos. Live, text, and email results are provided. Personalized bibs are available if registration is completed three weeks before race day; t-shirts are offered but not guaranteed.
Awards are given to the top three male and female overall finishers, to top active NYPD officers, and to winners in standard age groups. Registration options include the 5K run/walk and an untimed kids fun run; fees include processing and are non-refundable. Check in and bib pickup are managed at the white tent in Municipal Lot 1. Event proceeds support programs related to officer mental health, family assistance after a suicide, grief groups, seminars for officers, and other awareness and prevention efforts.
