Outrun the Hackers 5K
Outrun the Hackers 5K takes place on October 21, 2026 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The community event features a 3 Miles course that starts at the Carousel Pavilion on City Island and follows a loop across the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge, along Front Street to a turnaround near the Harvey Taylor Bridge and Forester Street, then returns the same way. City Island is ADA compliant and is wheelchair and stroller friendly, with port-a-potties and parking available.
The event is presented with support from Harrisburg University and InfraGard Central PA alongside cybersecurity professionals, students, government leaders, industry partners, and community members. Race services include professional chip timing and race results, a finisher medal for all participants, an official race t-shirt with size guarantees for early registrants, and awards for top overall male and female finishers plus awards in age groups ranging from 10 and under through 70 plus.
The course includes cybersecurity themed mile markers and checkpoints named Phishing Defense Zone, Zero Trust Corridor, and AI Defender Sprint, and there are themed hacker zones along the route. Safety and logistics provisions include on-site professional medical personnel and EMS support, water stations along the course and at the finish line, Harrisburg Police and volunteers for traffic control, and a clearly marked, staffed course. Proceeds benefit the Harrisburg University Cybersecurity Student Scholarship Fund. Packet pickup details will be announced prior to race day.
