Outrun the Hackers 5K
Outrun the Hackers 5K is an inaugural community running event held on October 21, 2026, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, organized by Harrisburg University with InfraGard Central PA and community partners to mark Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The event combines a short road course with themed course elements and community-focused activities.
The course begins at the Carousel Pavilion on City Island, loops around the island, crosses the pedestrian Walnut Street Bridge, continues along Front Street to a turnaround near the Harvey Taylor Bridge and Forester Street intersection, then returns the same way. The route is described as ADA compliant and is wheelchair and stroller friendly; port-a-potties and parking are available on City Island.
Race features include an official race t-shirt, professional chip timing with race results, a finisher medal for participants, awards for top overall male and female finishers and for top finishers across age groups from 10 and under through 70 plus, and post-race refreshments. The course includes cybersecurity-themed mile markers, noted as Mile 1 Phishing Defense Zone, Mile 2 Zero Trust Corridor, and Mile 3 AI Defender Sprint. Participants are encouraged to wear cybersecurity-themed attire or team shirts.
Event safety provisions include professional medical personnel and EMS, water stations along the course and at the finish, and traffic control provided by Harrisburg Police and event volunteers. Proceeds benefit the Harrisburg University Cybersecurity Student Scholarship Fund. Pre-race packet pickup details will be announced, and race-day pickup is also available.
