Outrun the Hackers 5K
The Outrun the Hackers 5K is a community event held in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to mark Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Organized by Harrisburg University and InfraGard Central PA, the event brings together cybersecurity professionals, students, and community members to support cyber resilience and education. Proceeds from the registration fees benefit the Harrisburg University Cybersecurity Student Scholarship Fund.
The event features a single distance:
- 5 km Run or Walk
The course begins at the Carousel Pavilion on City Island. Participants loop around the island before crossing the pedestrian Walnut Street Bridge. The route continues along Front Street, turns around near the Harvey Taylor Bridge intersection, and returns along the same path to the finish. The course on City Island is ADA compliant and accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
Participants experience a themed route with specific mile markers including the Phishing Defense Zone at mile one, the Zero Trust Corridor at mile two, and the AI Defender Sprint at mile three. The event includes professional chip timing for all runners. Water stations are positioned along the course and at the finish line, with medical personnel and traffic control provided for safety.
Registration includes an official race t-shirt and a finisher medal, with availability guaranteed for those who meet the early registration deadline. Awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as the top finishers in age groups ranging from 10 and under to 70 and over.
