Outrun the Darkness 9.88K, 5K, Kids’ Fun Run and 1 Mile Memory Walk : Hazleton, PA (May 16, 2026)

This event is the Friends of Rachel Club's 2nd Annual Suicide Prevention and Awareness Race. Organizers present local and national suicide statistics and frame the event as part of efforts to raise awareness, promote mental health, and support people affected by suicide. All proceeds benefit the Friends of Rachel Club’s mental health and suicide prevention efforts within the Hazleton Area School District.

• 1 Mile Memory Walk/Run
• Virtual 5K and 9.88K

The event base is Hazleton Area High School; the 5K and 9.88K courses will route around the school campus and nearby areas rather than solely around the track, with the final course to be announced. Packets can be picked up at the Hazleton Area High School Track & Field on race day, and onsite registration will be available up until the race start. Water stations will be onsite. The 5K and 9.88K will be professionally timed using disposable electronic tags; the fun run will not be timed. Awards will be given to the top three male and female overall finishers and top three in listed age groups. After the event there will be food trucks, kids’ activities, prize trays, and a Candlelight Ceremony to provide community support and remembrance.
