Outrun the Darkness is the 2nd Annual Suicide Prevention and Awareness Race held on May 16, 2026, in Hazleton, PA. The event is organized by the Friends of Rachel Club to raise awareness about suicide prevention, promote mental health, and support people affected by suicide. Race details and services
The 9.88K and 5K will be professionally timed and scored by Second Wind Racing using disposable electronic tags on bibs. Printed results will be posted at the race site and live online. The fun run is not timed. Packet pickup is available at the Hazleton Area High School track and field on race day, and in-person registration will be available at the registration table. Water stations will be onsite. The 9.88K distance references the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number.
Awards, activities and use of proceeds
Awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers overall and to the top three in age groups: 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. After the races there will be food trucks, tricky trays, kids’ activities (for example kite and bracelet making, arts and crafts) and a Candlelight Ceremony. All proceeds will benefit the Friends of Rachel Club’s mental health and suicide prevention efforts within the Hazleton Area School District.
