Outrun the Darkness 9.88K

Outrun the Darkness is the Friends of Rachel Club's 2nd annual suicide prevention and awareness race held at Hazleton Area High School in Hazleton, Pennsylvania on May 16, 2026. The event raises awareness about suicide prevention, supports mental health efforts, and directs proceeds to the Friends of Rachel Club’s programs within the Hazleton Area School District.

The event offers several participation options:

• 9.88K (reference to the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline number)
• 5K
• 1 Mile Memory Walk/Run
• Kid’s Fun Run
• Virtual 5K and 9.88K (same shirt for virtual participants; no awards or official results)

Although the venue is the high school track and field, the 5K and 9.88K courses will run around the Hazleton Area High School campus and nearby roads; the final course will be announced later. The event schedule includes post-run activities such as food trucks, tricky trays, and kids’ activities like kite and bracelet making stations and arts and crafts. A Candlelight Ceremony follows the running events to provide a community setting for suicide loss survivors and mental health advocates to remember loved ones lost to suicide.
