Event Format
OUTLAST is a 6-hour trail endurance challenge. Runners complete a 5K lap every hour, on the hour. Each lap must be finished within 60 minutes to continue. Finishing a lap early allows for rest until the next start time. Participants are eliminated if they miss a lap cutoff. Completing all six laps is the ultimate goal.
Location and Terrain
The event takes place at the Brecksville Reservation, Oak Pavilion in Brecksville, Ohio. The course is trail-based, featuring natural terrain, elevation, dirt, rocks, and roots, with occasional sections of pavement and gravel.
Awards and Recognition
Participants receive a premium event t-shirt. Awards are given based on the number of laps completed:
- 4 laps: "Grit Earned" patch.
- 5 laps: "Survivor" patch.
- 6 laps: Premium "OUTLAST" medal.
The top male and female finishers with the fastest combined time for all six laps win a local award. All six-lap finishers are ranked on a national leaderboard, with the fastest runner across all OUTLAST events crowned National Champion and winning $1,000. The top 100 national times are invited to an Outlast Championship.
Additional Details
The event is held over two days with identical "6 Hour Challenge" events on Saturday and Sunday. Competing on both days earns a special "DOUBLE OUTLAST" plaque. Basic hydration and snacks are provided at the basecamp; it is a cupless event, so participants must bring their own bottle or hydration system. Participants are allowed to set up personal tents.
