Towne Bank Outer Banks Marathon & Half Marathon
The Outer Banks Marathon is recognized as the oldest continuously running road race in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The event takes place over a full weekend in November, offering participants a course that is flat and fast as it winds through the natural island scenery.
The event features various distances and categories for participants:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 8K
- 5K
- Color Fun Run
The weekend includes a two-day sports and fitness expo where participants can pick up their race packets. Registered runners receive a race t-shirt and finisher items upon completing their event. The finish line area hosts a post-race celebration with live music, southern barbecue, and a beer garden for those aged 21 and older.
The course is designed with multiple turns across the islands, and spectators typically gather along the route to support the athletes. Please note that strollers and pets are not permitted on the course. Military discounts are available for retired and active duty service members. As a non-profit event, the weekend is supported by various local organizations and volunteer staff. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
