Oriflamme 50k : course and race details
Oriflamme is an out-and-back trail race covering 50K on a route that starts and finishes at Sunrise Trailhead. The course follows the Pacific Crest Trail north before shifting onto Mason Valley Truck Trail and descending roughly 2,000 feet into the desert via Oriflamme Canyon. After crossing S2, the route continues on the California Riding & Hiking Trail through Box Canyon to a turnaround in Blair Valley, then returns along the same route.
Terrain includes mostly single track with rolling sections for the first 5.4 miles, a steep descent of about five miles to the desert floor, and sandy or rocky footing through Box Canyon. The return includes a sustained climb of more than five miles up Oriflamme Canyon and a final stretch on Pacific Crest Trail back to Sunrise Trailhead. The Blair Valley turnaround provides water only.
Aid stations are fully stocked with water, electrolyte drink, gels, fruit, salty snacks, sweets, and other assorted foods. The field is limited to 150 runners. All entrants receive a technical t-shirt and finishers receive a medal. The race is part of the SoCal Ultra Series and has multiple course cutoffs located at intermediate points along the route.
