Event
Oriflamme is a 50K out-and-back trail race held April 11, 2026, in the Julian / Anza Borrego Desert area. The race starts and finishes at the Sunrise Trailhead. Entry is limited to 150 runners. The event has a 9 hour time limit. All entrants receive a technical t-shirt and finishers receive a medal. An early start option is offered.
Course
The route follows the Pacific Crest Trail north to Mason Valley Truck Trail, then descends into the desert via Oriflamme Canyon with more than a 2,000 foot drop. At the canyon base the course turns onto the California Riding & Hiking Trail, crosses S2, and proceeds through Box Canyon into Blair Valley, which is the turnaround point. Runners return the same way, including a final multi-mile climb up Oriflamme Canyon and a last section on rolling single track back to the Sunrise Trailhead. Terrain includes single track, steep descent and ascent, sandy and rocky footing in places, and desert scenery.
Aid stations and logistics
Aid stations are stocked with water, electrolyte drink, gels, fruit, salty snacks, sweets and other assorted foods. The Blair Valley turnaround provides water only. There are three course cutoffs located at the turnaround, the Mason Valley aid station return, and the finish. Post-race food and event photos have been provided by local vendors and photographers in past years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
