Anza Borrego Cuyamaca 50 (ABC 50)
Anza Borrego Cuyamaca 50 is a point to point 50 mile trail race in Cleveland National Forest and Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. The course travels from the Sunrise Trailhead into Cuyamaca Rancho, ascends Stonewall Peak, follows wooded trails near the lake, and drops down Oriflamme Canyon to finish at Stagecoach Trails RV Resort and Campground.
Aid stations are placed along the course with varying crew access. Museum, West Mesa, and Box Canyon aid stations do not allow crew access. Sweetwater, Paso Picacho, and Pedro Fages allow crew and spectators. Pacers may join runners at Paso Picacho and Pedro Fages. Water and Tailwind are available at all aid stations and typical ultra foods are provided, including salty snacks, sweets, PB&J sandwiches, boiled potatoes, gels, cola, and ginger ale.
Logistics and equipment rules are specified for runners. Drop bags no larger than a one gallon clear ziplock and clearly labeled are allowed at Sweetwater, Paso Picacho, and Pedro Fages and must be submitted at registration on race morning. All runners must carry at least 20 ounces of hydration while on course. Runners leaving Pedro Fages after 1 p.m. must carry a headlamp or flashlight.
The finish at Stagecoach Trails includes a dining hall, hot meal service, and showers. A pre race shuttle from the finish to the start is offered for an additional fee. Trails are maintained by volunteer groups and the event is part of the SoCal Ultra Series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
