About the race
The inaugural Orange Shirt Day Treaty One Run & Walk takes place on Sunday, September 27, 2026, beginning at the Assiniboia Residential School Monument at 621 Academy Road in Winnipeg, MB, Canada.
The event features a 5 km Run & Walk that brings together Residential School Survivors, families, First Nations communities, youth, and members of the public to honour Survivors and remember the children who never returned home.
An opening ceremony at the monument includes prayer, an Honour Song, acknowledgements of Survivors and Elders, and a historical reflection on the Assiniboia Residential School. Participants then follow a looping course from the former school site through the surrounding area before returning to Theodore Fontaine Park for a finish-line gathering.
The gathering at Theodore Fontaine Park will include refreshments, community partners, and cultural and educational displays. Registration for the 5 km Run and Walk is listed as free.
