Open to Offas

Open to Offas is a long-established challenge event in north-east Wales held on 8 August 2026. The event is based at Cilcain Village Hall in Flintshire and offers multiple route options that use pre-entry.

All routes climb the Clwydian Hills and follow the Offa's Dyke Path over Moel Famau. The longer courses continue across Moel Fenlli towards Llanarmon-yn-Ial, with returns through wooded countryside. The terrain is described as good underfoot throughout.

Distances offered

  • 32 miles (52 km), 6,377 ft elevation
  • 24 miles (40 km), 4,945 ft elevation
  • 16 miles (25.5 km), 2,792 ft elevation

Walkers and runners are welcome. Entry includes a detailed route description, refreshments at checkpoints and the finish, and a certificate. There is a checkpoint cut-off on the 32 mile route; participants who miss the cut-off must follow an alternative route. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead and are not permitted inside Cilcain Village Hall. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Participants are expected to carry a map (Explorer 265 or Landranger 116) or an electronic equivalent. Route descriptions and GPX files are provided by the event organiser.
