Open to Offas
Open to Offas is a long-established challenge event in north-east Wales held in August, based at Cilcain Village Hall in Flintshire (grid reference SJ176652). Both walkers and runners are welcome.
The event offers multiple route lengths with named ascent figures and distances:
- 32 miles (52 km) - 6377 ft (1944 m) ascent
- 24 miles (40 km) - 4945 ft (1507 m) ascent
- 16 miles (25.5 km) - 2792 ft (851 m) ascent
All routes climb the Clwydian Hills and follow the Offa's Dyke Path over Moel Famau. The longer courses continue over Moel Fenlli towards Llanarmon-yn-Ial, and returns pass through woodland and Loggerheads Country Park.
Entry includes a detailed route description, refreshments at checkpoints and the finish, and a certificate. There is a cut-off time at Checkpoint 3 for the 32 mile route; participants arriving after that time will be required to follow an alternative route. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead; dogs are not permitted inside Cilcain Village Hall. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Participants are expected to carry a map (Explorer 265 or Landranger 116) or an electronic equivalent. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
