Open to Offas
Open to Offas is a long-established challenge event held in northeast Wales with routes starting from Cilcain Village Hall in Flintshire. The event offers multiple route lengths over upland terrain and follows established footpaths and country park tracks.
All routes climb the Clwydian Hills and follow the Offa's Dyke Path over Moel Famau, with a return via wooded countryside and Loggerheads Country Park. The longer routes continue over Moel Fenlli towards Llanarmon-yn-Ial. The event is open to both walkers and runners.
Distances available:
- 32 miles (52 km) - 6377 ft (1944 m) elevation
- 24 miles (40 km) - 4945 ft (1507 m) elevation
- 16 miles (25.5 km) - 2792 ft (851 m) elevation
Entry information includes an early-bird period with reduced fees before 1 June, and different fees for LDWA members and non-members. Entry includes a detailed route description, refreshments at checkpoints and at the finish, and a certificate. Route description and GPX files are provided by Merseystride.
Practical notes: dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead and are not permitted inside Cilcain Village Hall; under 18s must be accompanied by an adult; participants are expected to carry a map (Explorer 265 or Landranger 116) or an electronic equivalent. There is a checkpoint cut-off on the longest route with an alternative routing for late arrivals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
