Open to Offas

Open to Offas is a long-established challenge event located in North East Wales, starting and finishing at Cilcain Village Hall in Flintshire. The event takes place in August and offers three distinct route options for both walkers and runners:

  • 32 miles (52 km) with 6377 ft (1944 m) of elevation.
  • 24 miles (40 km) with 4945 ft (1507 m) of elevation.
  • 16 miles (25.5 km) with 2792 ft (851 m) of elevation.

All participants climb the Clwydian Hills to follow the Offa's Dyke Path along the ridge, passing over Moel Famau. The routes provide views of the surrounding landscape and include sections through woodland and Loggerheads country park. The longer distances also travel over Moel Fenlli toward Llanarmon-yn-Ial.

The entry fee includes a detailed route description, a certificate upon completion, and refreshments provided at checkpoints and the finish line. Participants are expected to carry a physical map (Explorer 265 or Landranger 116) or an electronic equivalent. A cut-off time is enforced at checkpoint 3 for the 32 mile route; those arriving after the limit must switch to an alternative route.

Dogs are permitted if kept on a lead, though they are not allowed inside the village hall. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
