One Flag Forward Community Event
The One Flag Forward event in Tacoma is a community run and walk held along Ruston Way. This local gathering serves as the conclusion of a broader five-day effort in Washington State, where a flag is moved across 250 miles. This regional initiative parallels a national event where a single American flag travels from Ground Zero in New York City to the Global War on Terrorism Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Participants in Tacoma will complete a 6 mile route. This distance represents the final segment of the local 250-mile journey. The event is organized through a partnership between wear blue: run to remember and Team Red, White & Blue, two organizations that support the military-connected community.
The event honors the spirit of national unity and service, specifically reflecting on the strength shown by the nation in the aftermath of September 11, 2001. The flag used in the national relay is carried by Veterans, Gold Star families, Service Members, and civilian supporters to represent all branches of the United States Armed Forces.
The Tacoma event includes:
- 6 mile Community Run/Walk
The registration for this community gathering is free of charge. Following the completion of the miles, a social gathering is held for participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
