Event Overview

The OMM Lite is a navigation-based trail event held in Grasmere as part of the Lake District Running Festival. Participants take part in a treasure hunt style challenge where the goal is to locate as many checkpoints as possible within a specific time limit. Teams or solo entrants receive a bespoke map at the start line showing 30 checkpoint locations hidden throughout the valley, each assigned a point value.

Individuals and teams of two or three can choose to participate for either one or two days. Those opting for the two-day event return to the event headquarters after the first day before heading out again on the second day.

Course Options

There are two main distance and time formats available for participants:

  • Long Course - 7 hours on Saturday and 5 hours on Sunday.
  • Short Course - 5 hours on Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday.

Regulations and Equipment

Participants must carry specific mandatory equipment for safety and navigation. This includes waterproof jackets and trousers with taped seams, warm layers, hats, gloves, and footwear suitable for trail use. Navigational tools such as a compass and whistle are required, alongside first aid equipment, emergency food, and a fully charged mobile phone.

Timing is managed using SPORTident chips attached to the participant's wrist. To register a visit to a checkpoint, participants must "dib" their timing tag into a control box at the location. The entry fee includes the map, live tracking, event photography, and a hot meal and drink served in the main marquee after the event concludes.
