About the race
OMM Lite is a map-based checkpoint event held in Grasmere as part of the Lake District Running Festival on 30 and 31 May 2026. Organisers place 30 checkpoints around the valley; competitors receive a map that shows each checkpoint location, a two letter code, and the points value for that control. Teams or individuals choose to compete for one or two days. There are two course time options: *Long Course* with time limits of 7 hours on Saturday and 5 hours on Sunday, and *Short Course* with time limits of 5 hours on Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday.
Teams may be two or three people and must stay within talking distance of each other at all times. Maps supplied are Harveys 1:25000. On the start line competitors dib their timing tag to begin and are handed a map for that day. Each control has an orange and white orienteering flag with a control box; the timing tag must be placed into the control box to register a visit.
If a control box fails, competitors should note the three letter code or take a photo to report at the finish for scoring. Required kit is listed as a minimum and includes waterproof jacket and trousers, warm layer, hat and gloves, suitable footwear, whistle and compass, map, pen or pencil, first aid, emergency food, water carrying capability and a fully charged mobile phone. Entry includes SPORTident timing chips, live tracking, event photographs, bespoke OMM Lite maps and a hot meal after the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
