OMKC Non-Runners Run and Go the Extra Mile for the Military Kids
Operation Military Kids Club (OMKC) hosts an annual non-competitive run and walk event in Surf City, North Carolina. The course begins at Faith Harbor United Methodist Church (14201 NC-50, Surf City) and finishes at The Salty Turtle (103 Triton Lane, Surf City). The event offers two distances:
- 0.5 miles - half-mile run or walk; midway donut and water stop.
- 1.5 miles - continues past midpoint to complete one and a half miles.
Registration fees vary by age and distance; adults pay between $25 and $35 depending on the distance, participants ages 5-17 pay $15, and children under 5 may attend free. Registered participants aged 21 and over receive a ticket for a free beer at the finish location; root beer is provided for those under 21. Participants who register at least two weeks before the event will receive a t-shirt.
The course is stroller and wheelchair friendly. No dogs are allowed on the course except service dogs. Awards are given for the most patriotic attire or costumes. Parking is available at Faith Harbor and The Salty Turtle. All proceeds benefit Operation Military Kids Club, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that supports events connecting military children in the community.
