Sledgehammer Beach Run
The Sledgehammer Beach Run is an endurance event held in North Topsail Beach, North Carolina. The event is organized by the Jacksonville-Onslow Sports Commission to honor the memory of Dr. E.B. Sledge, a Marine veteran of World War II, and to recognize all combat veterans. Portions of the race proceeds are donated to support wounded and injured service members and their families.
The event features several race distances with the entire course taking place on the sand:
- Half Marathon (13.1 Miles)
- 10k Beach Run (6.2 Miles)
- 5k Beach Run (3.1 Miles)
- Virtual Races for the 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon distances
The Half Marathon has a maximum time limit of four hours. Participants remaining on the course after this window are collected by staff and become ineligible for awards. Registration for the in-person races includes a bib with a timing chip, a drawstring bag, and access to refreshments at the finish line. Participants who complete their race also receive a finisher medal.
To manage registration costs, event t-shirts and other apparel are available for separate purchase rather than being included in the standard entry fee. The event is held rain or shine at the beach location on Island Drive. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
