Sledgehammer Beach Run
The Sledgehammer Beach Run is a multi-event running festival on the sand at 2950 Island Drive, North Topsail Beach, NC, held March 26 and March 27, 2027. The event includes in-person and virtual races and is organized by the Jacksonville-Onslow Sports Commission in memory of a Marine and World War II veteran. A portion of race proceeds supports Semper Fi & America's Fund.
All in-person courses run entirely on the beach. Race registration packages include a finisher medal for those who finish, a drawstring bag, exclusive restaurant discounts, a bib with a chiming chip, and access to finish line refreshments. T-shirts and other apparel are available for purchase separately; purchased items may be picked up with race packets or shipped to virtual participants.
The half marathon has a 4 hour cutoff; participants still on course after four hours will be picked up and will be disqualified for awards. The 5K is scheduled as a Sunset 5K on the Friday of the event. A free shuttle is available on March 27 from Beach Access #31 at 4030 Island Drive, and a parking pass is provided for early arrivals; the parking lot will be free for pass holders until 1:00 PM on March 27 only.
