Sledgehammer Beach Run
The Sledgehammer Beach Run takes place March 26–27, 2027 at 2950 Island Drive, North Topsail Beach, NC. The event features in-person and virtual race options across several standard distances.
All in-person courses are held entirely on the beach. The in-person program includes:
- 13.1 Miles Half Marathon
- 6.2 Miles 10K
- 3.1 Miles Sunset 5K held the evening before the other races
The half marathon has a 4-hour cutoff; participants remaining on course after four hours will be picked up by staff and will be disqualified for awards. Race registration for in-person entries includes a finisher medal for those who finish, a drawstring bag, exclusive restaurant discounts, a bib with chiming chip, and access to finish line refreshments. Virtual race options are offered for the half marathon, 10K, and 5K; virtual finishers can receive shipped items from the race store.
Registration opened October 6, 2026. Entry fees listed by event include $45 for the in-person half marathon, $30 for the in-person 10K, $20 for the in-person Sunset 5K, and $25 for virtual entries. A race store offers optional apparel and items; purchased items are available at packet pickup or shipped to virtual participants.
A free shuttle runs on March 27 from Beach Access #31 (4030 Island Drive) and a parking pass is provided for lot access on that day. Event ownership and operation are by the Jacksonville-Onslow Sports Commission. A portion of proceeds supports Semper Fi & America’s Fund.
