Om Die Dam, Franschhoek
Om Die Dam is a trail running event held at Berg River Dam, Robertsvlei Road, Franschhoek. The event offers multiple route lengths around and above the dam, using single-track and mountain trails. Access is via Franschhoek town rather than the dam wall before Franschhoek.
The event distances and entry fees are:
- 25 km: R750, elevation 1000 m, 4 refuel stations
- 15 km: R550, elevation 300 m, 3 refuel stations
- 10 km: R350, elevation 300 m, 2 refuel stations
- 6 km: R160, elevation not specified, refuel station
Route notes provided by the organiser describe the 25 km course as running in the mountains and around the dam with cliff-edge trails and significant elevation, intended for experienced runners. The 15 km route follows gentle trails around the Berg River Dam. The 10 km route is mostly single track around half the dam. The 6 km option is described as an easy family run.
Compulsory kit includes a minimum of 1 L water, race food, a rain jacket and space blanket, and a fully charged cellphone. There is one water/snack table on the route. The event is presented as green and enviro friendly with no water sachets or paper cups; participants should bring their own cup. Headphones, dogs, and litter are not allowed.
