Event Overview
The Old First Ward Shamrock Run is organized by the Old First Ward Community Association. The 2026 edition marks the event's 48th anniversary. It takes place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Old First Ward Community Center located at 62 Republic Street in Buffalo, New York.
Events and Course
The event offers an 8k Run (approximately 4.97 miles). The course is USATF certified with certification number #NY15039JJ. A Virtual 8k Run option is also available.
Registration and Fees
Registration is open to participants aged 1 to 98. Pricing for the in-person run is tiered, starting at $44 from November 28 through February 28, and increasing to $50 from March 1 through race day. The virtual run costs $35. Online registration closes at 5:00 PM on Friday, March 6.
A garment is guaranteed for the first 3800 registered participants, though specific sizes are chosen at packet pickup on a first-come, first-served basis. Virtual runners can have their packets mailed to a U.S. domestic address for an additional $10 fee. Race bibs are not provided for virtual runners.
Packet Pickup
Packet pickup and in-person registration are held at the Old First Ward Community Center. Dates and times include February 28-29 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, March 2-6 from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, and race day (March 7) from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Awards are presented in several categories:
- First Place Male and Female Overall
- First Place Male and Female Masters (40+)
- First Place Male and Female Police Officer
- First Place Male and Female First Ward (Buffalo) Resident
- Top three Male and Female finishers in age groups ranging from 14 & under through 80 & over.
