Event overview
The Old College Tri & 5K takes place in Denton, TX on Sunday, August 23, 2026. The event includes a sprint triathlon and a separate 5K run. The swim is in a lazy river and is 245 yards. The bike leg is 12.5 miles. The run distance for the triathlon is 5K (3.1 miles). The 5K run finishes inside the stadium. All finishers receive a finisher's medal. All registered participants receive a custom Old College Tri race shirt. 5K participants also receive the Old College Tri shirt.
Race format, teams and awards
The triathlon offers individual divisions and team competition. Team divisions are male, female, and coed. Teams are three-person teams; each member completes swim, bike, and run. Team results are the sum of the three members' times. Team entries remain eligible for overall and age-group awards. The event includes Athena and Clydesdale divisions and many standard age groups. Awards are three deep per age group, with separate overall, masters, and grand masters awards. A 40-yard dash champion will be named in each age group with first-place trophies. Awards must be picked up in person or by a designated person; awards are not mailed.
Logistics and rules
Packet pickup is scheduled at local locations in the days before the event, including a pickup at Denton Natatorium the day before the race. Photo ID is required for packet pickup. Adult competitors must pick up their own packet unless specific minor pickup rules apply. Competitors must be current USAT members or purchase a one-day USAT permit. The race has a no-refund, no-transfer policy. In inclement weather the event may be delayed by up to one hour, altered, or cancelled at the Race Director's discretion.
