Event Overview
The Old College Tri & 5K takes place in Denton, Texas. This multi-sport event features both a sprint triathlon and a standalone 5 km running race. Participants are encouraged to wear college gear representing their alma mater during the competition.
The triathlon consists of three distinct segments:
- 250 yard swim (conducted in a lazy river)
- 12 mile bike
- 3.1 mile run
Specialized Divisions and Team Competition
The event offers several registration categories beyond standard age groups. The Athena division is available for female athletes weighing 165 lbs or more, while the Clydesdale division is for male athletes weighing 220 lbs or more.
A team competition is also held for male, female, and co-ed groups. This is not a relay; instead, three participants each complete all three triathlon disciplines. The team trophy is awarded to the group with the lowest combined overall time. Participants in the team category remain eligible for individual overall and age group awards.
Additional Features
The event includes a 40 yard dash component where the fastest sprinter in each age group receives a first-place trophy. Participants in the standalone 5 km race finish inside the stadium alongside the triathletes. All 5 km runners receive a finisher's medal and an event shirt.
Weather and Safety Policies
In cases of inclement weather, the start may be delayed by up to one hour. Beyond that, the course may be shortened or altered. The race director reserves the right to cancel the event if conditions become unsafe. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
