Okefenokee Swamp Run

The Okefenokee Swamp Run is a cross-country running event held at Okefenokee Swamp Park in Waycross, Georgia. Now in its 49th year, it is recognized as one of the longest-running continuous races in South Georgia. The event consists of two primary distances:

  • 10 km trail run
  • 1 mile family-friendly fun run

The course for the 10 km distance is a trail-style route that consists mostly of dirt surfaces through natural terrain. The route begins and ends inside the Okefenokee Swamp Park, giving participants views of wide-open scenery and local wildlife. The footing is designed to be easy to navigate.

The event site provides indoor bathrooms located at the start and finish lines. Participants receive a performance-wicking t-shirt based on their registered distance, with specific colors designated for each race. Registered runners are provided with a breakfast including a fruit cup and chicken biscuit, along with a gift card for a local restaurant.

The race takes place within the protected environment of the park, and for safety reasons, pets and service dogs are not permitted on the course. All participants receive free entry to the Okefenokee Swamp Park on the day of the race. Proceeds from the event support the conservation, stewardship, and educational efforts of the Okefenokee Swamp Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
